Malaya - Supply Dispatch by air - What airfield? was created by PETERTHEEATER
At first, I thought this featured Butterworth but it could be Kuala Lumpur or Glugor.
Any ideas? Sharp eyed background watchers only!!

Have viewed the clip several times now. It isn't Butterworth and certainly not Glugor. My money is on Kuala Lumpur.

That's what I think Laurie. Can't recall if 52 Sqn used Ipoh too.

The Whirlwinds in the background would most likely be 848Sq nominally based at Sembawang. (arrived 8th Jan 53 on board HMS Perseus)
Valetta is VX546/A of the FETW(48,52 & 110 Sqs) nominally based Changi.
Lot of PSP dispersals - Changi had vast areas of that in 1953 when I was there as a kid - but the hills in the shot near the end do not look like Singapore.

When I was at Butterworth (1961 - 1964/5), 110 Squadron had re-equipped with Sycamore.
52 Sqn had Valettas but with a permanent detachment at B'worth to enable air supply drops to anti CT forces in the north of the Malay peninsula. The 'air droppers' were RASC (55 Coy?). There was also an RAF Whirlwind detachment but I can't recall the unit

848 was Fleet Air Arm of course.
I worked with 110 Sqn (Sycamores) when at B'worth but my old grey matter cannot recall that the Whirlwinds were on their strength, I seem to remember the piston engine version being replaced with Whirly 10 gas turbine models?

One clue for me is the strip itself - interlocking steel track - see it at the begining when they are loading.
My first flight, 1948, was from Changi at night - the noisy rattle of the track and flame coming out of the back of the engines on the Dakota were a bit "off-putting".
So I think it may be Changi.

Dennis, KL also had large areas of PSP. I have several photos of the pan area which clearly show this. The main base for jungle re-supply ops was KL and all three FEAF transport squadrons took it in turn to provide aircraft and personnel there for 6 months at a time.
Looking at the background scenery in the sequence, I still favour KL rather than Changi.
