Has anyone ever heard of RAF Battlebridge?? I know of Attlebridge in Norfolk but never heard of this place. Can anyone shed any light on it?
According to google (unless I've totally misread something), Hendon is located in an area called the Battlebridge basin, could it be a local name for that?
Spilsby was often reffered to as Firsby, Binbrook was also known as Brookenby, Meatheringham was also Martin etc.

The defining word 'Essex' Im afraid puts paid to that idea Simon, Hendon being in Middlesex.
There were two First world war airfields nearby, Stow Maries and Goldhanger, were these near enough to Battlesbridge being the RFC changed into the RAF? were they even used in 1940 is suspect though. Just a thought.
