Sorry Paul, I wasn't sure that this was a Guessing Game ! ? Duh !
My fault. But, for the same reason as Kebecker has stated. I Really Wanted there to be a Airport there, at that time ! At 15 years old, having just left School, what Better Place to wanna-work than a place Full o' Planes ? 
Just sooo-pleased now, that that didn't happen !

Was there a lot of woodworking going on then that required a lot of planes?
Forget which film it was in but wasn't there a line in one where the trainee pilots were told they were not planes but aeroplanes - Reach for Sky perhaps?
