I was just looking at this RN history site and noticed they had a couple of airfield pictures for identification.

The airfield looks Far East to me but the control tower looks familiar, unless I saw it on that website.

Yes, it does have a look of the Far East.

What is the circular area to the left of the end of the runway?

I get a slight feeling that seeing a hint of a circular shape at the bottom right but can't decide what I am seeing if I am seeing anything at all!

Yes definetely a far east look for the first one, IIRC 1846 Sqn served in the far east. The second one is UK and I would hazard a guess at one of the RN Orkney airfields.

Might help if the aircraft types can be identified. I'm not sure if I can see C-54 Skymasters (USAAF/USAF) or Canadair Argus (RCAF), in which case it may be more likely to be a North American location. Smaller aircraft a bit too difficult to ID I think.
