Farnsworth control?

I'm having difficulty answering a friends question, I hope your knowledge can help me.
I cannot give you the exact year, but the situation is as follows: A group of four F-100s of 32TFS at Soesterberg AB was en route to Wheelus AB, Libya via France and Italy. At some point, the group got into trouble, resulting in two F-100s being lost, the other two barely made it to safety (see attachment).
During the emergency, they were in contact with "Farnsworth Control". My best guess would be that this was the RAF ATCC at Malta, but I am not certain. Do any of you know what it was and where it was located?

It sounds like an airfield's codename rather than a real location.

The late inventor, Filo T Farnsworth, invented a 'system for air traffic control' He died in 1971. Perhaps the term Farnsworth control is related to him.

I heard years ago some controllers discussing 'Trip (Tripoli) Radar', which was apparently operated by International Aeradio Ltd.
