Found at the end of Leicester East's Runway..PART 2

After finding the remains of the Totem Pole Approach lights at the end of Leicester East's main runway recently I also found this concrete foundation not far away from it. It's in this area here - goo.gl/maps/dpWmwzPrG7x

. Any ideas anybody if it's related to the airfield/runway or indeed the base of the other totem pole.? -

That's what I was thinking.....about it being a base for a mast..... not the ginormous dice obviously

Are there two holes in that block, Stevie? One at the opposite corner under the foliage? What is the size of the block / hole?

Have to admit I've no idea what it could be; it's roughly on the extended centre line from the main runway. LE didn't have any form of beam approach, or contact lighting (assuming the records are correct !). I suspect the hole is too small for a support pole for a Drem approach funnel light (can't remember the diameter but suspect 4-6 inch ish). I wouldn't have thought these poles needed a concrete base.

One tiny possibility is that it's a base for a stay wire for an overhead wiring support pole. Stays were only used when the route of the line changed direction. See post 155:

Also wiring from the airfield up to the first funnel was buried. From then on it was pole mounted. There must be something in the ground where the interface took place.

I'd say it's just over a foot long in width & length, no more than 35 cm's . Yes there are two holes. They are both slightly bigger than a fifty pence piece & both have an arched strip of metal in them very similar to the arched metal in the tie downs in the holes of the concrete in dispersals but this metal is thinner. It does look to me like those bits of metal could have been used for supporting wire or rope to support another structure in which case there should (or would) have been other concrete bases as well surely?

I think a re-visit could be in order.
