There was a grass landing strip up there at SK7408825880 but am sure you already knew that, so far I can't find anymore info on it.

There is a grass landing strip shown there on the 2012 OS 1K10 mapping. It is not marked on the 2014 1K10.
Shown on 2004 OS 1K25 and 2008 1K25 (I don't have 1K25 2104 for that area).

I don't have any record of a landing strip there in WWII

Looking on GE it does look very well mown, the spitfire reference is throwing me.
