I'm a bit confused about the British Anti-Tank Rocket

The head is shown as 'OGIVE'. What does this mean and is it the explosive? If it isn't where is the bang stuff?

The larger 4-inch version zeticauxo.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07...t-Rocket-Shell-1.pdf makes sense.

Plan A is always more effective when the problem you are working on understands that Plan B will involve the use of dynamite :twisted:

Strange mixture of places marked. It has "Docks" marked South of Oban, only thing I can think of is that someone picked up the Kerrera ferry on the map. Just a small passenger ferry and not sure if it even ran during the war. Does not have the airfield at Connel though.

I think the AT rocket head is just a cover to streamline the actual charge which is the shaped conical section. The soft head would crumple to allow the shaped charge to to contact the armour and blast a hot molten metal hole in it.

The aircraft rocket photo shows the non explosive solid 25lb head.

Not sure what the question marks on the maps are but a number of ranges are not shown. Most of these will be practice bombs only but some were jettison areas and others were target indicator of flare dropping ranges as well.

The drawing doesn't match the photograph.

The term ogive, as I was taught, describes the curve of the nose of a projectile, as it transits from the parallel to the nose and is a function of the length of that section.

That particular drawing uses 'ogive' to name a nose fairing (a.k.a as windshield) that streamlines a hollow charge shell. The inverted internal cone, usually a copper alloy has the explosive charge behind it. The impact fuse is behind the charge and, when initiated, the shock wave collapses the cone into a molten slug driven forward at high velocity to penetrate armour plate.

The rocket head, on the other hand, is not optimised to penetrate armour and is a simple HE filled shell using blast and fragmentation against a target. Poor titling implies that the shell is '3 inch' but that is the nominal diameter of the rocket motor to which it attaches. The drawing and thumbnail photo show the 60 pound HE head whereas the monochrome picture shows a multiple 3 inch rocket installation with 25 pound solid shot heads intended to penetrate submarine plating underwater.

Many of those Zenica data sheets would benefit from some experienced editing!
