German aircraft shot down over the UK in WW2?

Can anyone recommend any sources that record the dates and locations of enemy aircraft shot down over the UK during WW2? If indeed any such record was kept.

The trilogy 'The Blitz then and Now'(an After the Battle' publication) gives details of enemy aircraft crashes in the UK and obviously had a source for their data. I'm away from home currently so can't check my copy.

The also published 'The Battle of Britain then and now' with similar data.

Thanks for the prompt responses gents, much appreciated. £180 for the set? ..gulp... I think I will have to go in to this one a little more, maybe even drop it. I have come across a book named that might be useful and I will try and track down a copy of that.

To give a little background. A very elderly relative tells the story of how, as a teenager, her family witnessed a daytime chase of one aircraft after another low over the top of her house in Yorkshire. She recalls it as being Spring or early Summer 1940, I am still working at tying the date down nearer - which might be feasible due to other details in the story. It would have been interesting to try and find if one caught the other and if and where it hit the ground. It would have had to be on a weekend due to who was present at the house. If I can find some data, to me, it would seem a reasonably achievable target and I would be able to give her a little more detail about what she witnessed.

I'm looking to track a copy of 'Broken Eagles - Luftwaffe Losses Over Yorkshire', in the hope it features in there. Being as the incident happened about 60/65 miles inland, as the Hun flies, and there was shooting taking place at that point then I am assuming that there would have been a casualty before too long - or a run out of ammo and the raider escaped? Put me right by all means, but I didn't think there were many daytime sorties over the North during this period - but I will be the first to admit my knowledge of this is sketchy.

Sadly Bill Norman the author of the Broken Eagles books , and a very good friend of mine , passed away suddenly earlier this year . His books are a lasting legacy of unrivalled research into the air war over the north of England , often from the German perspective and always written with the focus on the airmen in the machine or on the people on the ground - the human side of the conflict were very often the enemy was not always as depicted .

You can still pick-up second hand copies of Bill's books and I think his publisher may well still have paperback copies available if you check their website ? I was lucky enough to visit many of these crash sites with Bill and others over the years so PM me and I may be able to help ?
