Airfield Review Explained

I've put this in the general forum as there must be many lapsed members out there who ought to rejoin. We have significant numbers of back issues for sale.

I'm currently reviewing the Airfield Review contents index and have problems. The issue numbering of AR has been discussed many times, and there is usually an error or two in the explanations. This is inevitable due to the many inconsistencies in the system.

Originally in 1978 there were ‘Volumes’ and ‘Numbers’ e.g. ‘Vol.1 No.1’. This went right through to 1991 with ‘Vol.11 No.4’ at which point, someone whose head was on the point of exploding, sensibly changed to a pure numbering system.

The old system had different numbers of issues per volume which didn't help, and one magazine, plus a whole volume never saw the light of day.

The first numbered issue was No.57 This figure was arrived at by counting previous issues; allowing for the missing magazine; double issues counted as two.

Issues 57 to date have been much simpler except for:
Summary: (figs in blue are actual issue numbers) .

There is Kevin. I thought it was ready for publication, but unfortunately I've just discovered it's far from complete. It will be discussed at the forthcoming committee meeting as to the best way forward.
