DENHAM - 21 EFTS Memorial and Memorial Garden was created by Darren J Pitcher
Hi

I wonder if someone could please provide me with any information or a photograph of a memorial at Denham airfield to the aircrew who trained there with 21 EFTS during WWII when it was used as a RLG for Booker. I believe there was a memorial garden but I am uncertain if this is still there.

Thanks

I was told some time ago there was a memorial garden (with fountain!), and within it 2 or more memorials.. one of which was to the lost glider pilots at Arnhem that had been taught to fly at Denham. Unfortunately exactly where it is/was I do not know, last mention I find of it is 1975.

I would suggest you either contact the family via the airfield manager or if your not too far away make a visit... one of the old blister hangers is still in active us today and the tea shop next door would make a good starting point for a hunt andthe people on the airfield have always very helpful in my research in the past.

I called here yesterday to enquire about any such memorial or garden, no-one knew anything about this. I asked some of the golfers and grounds people nothing ! About two years ago I did ask at the flying club if there was any kind of memorial there, again nothing. Also nothing in the clubhouse. Next week I will enquire again from a different crowd of golfers etc.

I had an email back from Beatrice Paul At Denham Airfield a few days ago in which she confirmed that the above mentioned memorial is no longer in existence.

I was also given the impression the memorial was not actually located on the airfield but in a private location nearby.

Thank you any way for your efforts in trying to track the memorial down, shame it no longer exists.
