Police wish to talk to two men concerning illicit metal-detecting at Butts Brow, Eastbourne

Police are keen to talk to two men in connection with illicit metal detecting which took place at Butts Brow, Eastbourne, on Sunday 6 November.

The site is close to a memorial for a B24 Liberator bomber crew whose airctaft crashed there during the Second World War.

I would have thought that metal detecting in a public place was allowed, but apparently not.

For those of us interested in using a metal detector, it's worth reading these articles/sites.

It seems the police have time to chase metal detectorists, but not interested if your van gets burgled. Strange world sometimes. :silly:

Fairly sure that you can only legally metal detect with permission from the landowner and there are specific bans on metal detecting in some places.
