RAF Misson

Hi everyone,

Just joined the forum. I am interested in the former RAF Misson site, just east of Finningley, South Yorks. My selfish interest is directly related to recently announced plans by a company called IGas who is about to seek planning consent to drill test wells in a field immediately adjacent to the gates of the former RAF Misson. If the test wells are successful, IGas will then progress to submit plans to commence full scale fracking in the area.

Along with most other residents of Misson & Misson Springs, I am opposed to IGas' intentions, and am seeking valid reasons to object to the proposed site being a test (and possibly fully operational) fracking site.

The proximity to a former MOD site seems worth investigating, as grounds for an objection. I'm aware that RAF Misson was a Bloodhound base, and prior to that, I think it hosted Operational Training Units (18 & 25), which involved dropping lots of bombs in the area known as Misson Carr, immediately East of the base.

I'm keen to hear from anyone who was based at RAF Misson, and would welcome information on volume of munitions that were used, tested etc, and also details of any clean-up operations that were undertaken.

Misson was not an airfield.

Adjacent to the main site (to the east) was an area used for exposives demolition so any remaining UXB disturbed by the drilling can only assist the fracking process:)
