Hi all
i am undertaking a bit of a'nostalgia tour' of Binbrook, Warboys & Upwood in December this year and was looking for some information on whether any remnants of those air bases may still be there? My father, Peter Cavenagh (although known as H.C.L Cavenagh AUS 410451 back then) was first with 460 squadron then transferred to 156 squadron and flew out of those bases between 18/11/43 and 18/11/44.
The Lancaster crews he flew with mostly were piloted by D.B. Falconer (21 ops) or J.O. Cameron (26 ops).
if anyone has any more information, crew photos, favorite pubs they may have frequented (that are still there) I'd be very grateful.

He was awarded the DFC:-
two records for him at the Australian War Memorial with references to the London and Australian Gazettes

There are also two records for him in the National Archives of Australia
Sometimes these have already been digitised, but not in this case
I am not sure how accessible these might be to you, and there might be a temporary block on access, I think due to a move of the archive.

The favoured pub for 460 Sqn, the Maquis of Granby in Binbrook Village, did not survive the closure of the station and is now a domestic property

There is a memorial in the village and a Roll of Honour in the Church
On Camp there is the signal square and its various memorials and both inside and outside of the old Sgts Mess

There is a website for RAF Binbrook at www.rafbinbrook.co.uk with lots of historical information, stories and pictures.
One does have to 'join' to read everything; but what the heck, it's free.
The site is rather quiet these days; but it could use some new blood, new stories, pictures and whatever.
