Hello all.
Picked up this Bendix radio compass recently for the small sum of £8, the seller advertised it as being used in the B17. However through my limited search on the net ive discovered it was most likely used in the B29, contacted the 8th AF museum to gain further information on which aircraft it was used in but to no avail.
Also sent an email to Bendix but received no reply but it would be nice to gain more information also on the units production run, and wondering if any member can point me in the direction of an original period control knob or atleast a similar one.
Love collecting these old items and im still on the hunt for a 50 Cal mounting pintle - but honestly £75? - well collecting keeps me out of trouble

I agree about the prices for some items, especially on a well known online auction site. The traditional auction houses seem to be even more expensive though often by many times. I have no idea how prices are decided but I do find myself paying them as sometimes the cost of getting a licenced copy of large map can be equally eye watering.
As regards your knob, if a genuine part is not forthcoming would a 3D printed copy be a viable option? I noticed a lot of intricate items for modellers can be made this way but it all hinges on the quality of the drawing.
No Amount Of Evidence Will Ever Persuade An Idiot (probably not Mark Twain)
You know I can understand p+p prices increasing but for items that sellers may have had for a while I’m at a loss.
Never thought of 3D I must admit, first port of call were instruments for sale on say eBay but here we go again with the prices. I don’t think there’s Militaria fares very often in Stoke on Trent but I’ll keep my eyes open.. love the clock so could well be worth the wait and as for the pintle that could be a longer wait!
Bendix seem (like many companies!) have gone through many changes of ownership and name. I doubt there is anyone there interested in the history of the company and its products.
Well after a month or so (i’d forgotten I had emailed the museum) I had a reply regarding this compasses use during its manufacture run… quite surprised with the information but happy non the less- a well spent eight quid!
