THE AIR MINISTRY REQUESTS was created by WILLIAMARNOLD
This is the steeple which is all that remains of St John's Church at Little Brington in Northamptonshire >While trying to find its History i found that according to Wikipedia that when it was due to be demolished in !947 the Air Ministry requested that the Spire be left as it was used for navigation.

It begs a couple of questions:
Why did the Air Ministry require it as a navigation aid, was it mentioned in their training syllabus?
Secondly were the Air Ministry randomly consulted about a church demolition or did they just find out?

Good points that make me wonder how reliable was Wikipedia possibly it is an "urban Legend " to explain why the steeple was left undemolished if not it does suppose the Air Ministry to be rather efficient and omniscient .When were radio beacons introduced .I don't know about 1940's planning regulations but it seems rather improbable that the Air Ministry kept Planning applications (if they were required at that period )under scrutiny

i suppose they had to have something before the motorways were built (an ex-RAF friend always said the M6 was an important navigational aid for the RAF.Why did the Air Ministry require it as a navigation aid, was it mentioned in their training syllabus?
