Inside a Birmingham Air Raid Shelter

I have posted this Shelter before , but this time as I passed the doors had fallen of Their hinges .As i did not have a torch the photos are a bit poorly positioned point with flash and see what comes up .The location of the remaining opening is on the side of the Birmingham Old Line Main Canal parallel To Northbrook road close by a set of steps up the cutting it was part of the disused Harborne Railway .From Old maps the tunnel was more of a bridge that went under Northbrook road at a steep angle from a cutting and emerged onto the side of the canal cutting directly onto a bridge spanning the canal of which the central pier on a mid canal island still survives .The first site on entering is a set of riveted girders crossing a trench which is actually a feeder canal and The detritus of drug abuse .At the closed end is a blue brick wall with a doorway leading to a set of steps upwards behind which is modern sheet steel piling Where the may have emerged is just a grassed over space where the old railway cutting has been filled . I presume the steps originally led down the side of the cutting.
