I found this image in a library book recently. Does anyone know where it is? Is it still extant? The caption to it give Dover as the location, but no other facts.

It looks like one of the bofors towers we covered in some detail a few years ago. Depending on the book it might be a stock photo rather than a specific Dover location? I have a feeling I scoured the Dover area when looking for bofors towers but then again they are easy to miss.

One reason for putting the image up is that I have never seen a tower that looks like this. I suspect that at the very least that 'angle' is fake as are the, to me, painted on windows. Britain needs propaganda: " we are prepared for tip and runs" so has to publish something to prove it but at the same time doesn't want to give the enemy anything like a true image, I'm guessing.

Given the water and bank in front of the building in the first photo, I wonder if that could be on the Royal Military Canal north of Hythe ?

I think the original photo posted is of one of the two demolished towers, one remaining, on the Lea Navigation, protecting the Royal Gunpowder Mills.

So quite a distance from Dover, or the South Coast !

This is what I started with. The book is called "1944. The Second World War In The Air In Photographs" Compiled by L Archard, published by Amberley, p.17. It is one of a series covering each year of the war. A lot of the photos are the usual common fare with only the occasional one new to me, at least. Reproduction is generally poor.
I knew you guys would come up good!

I thought that was a nice touch. Sand buckets, stirrup pump and rescue tools.

This is indeed the surviving Bofors platform at Cheshunt.
