Hello All
I'm plotting all the interwar, WW2 and Cold War features at Aldergrove, Co Antrim and came across a few things you may be able to help with. The first is the Aircraft Shed, constructed in the early 20s but my usual bible for all things hangar (Paul Francis' Mil Airfield Architecture) does not have it. Noted as Aircraft shed and office (drawing no 362/22, photo attached), Belfast truss roof, any info on this type gratefully received.
Second its noted in Cocroft and Thomas Cold War that Aldergrove was a dispersal airfield for the V-force. So was this ( third photo attached) the Operational Readiness Platforms built to serve as V-force dispersal hardstanding?

The Aldergrove 1922 hangar always reminded me of the pre-war hangars found in the USA. I wonder if there was an influence on the style from the USA?
Not sure about the V bomber dispersal apron. It would have looked more like the 026 end of Ballykelly, although with fewer dispersals. If it was there and it was of the same type the current apron seems to have been very good at wiping out all trace of any previous layout. We did have a thread on V bomber dispersals but the forum is so slow these days I can't be bothered to page through it. Google Earth doesn't show any likely alternative sites so it is possible it was planned and never went ahead, perhaps due to it being used as a civil airport as well?
