I was at Birmingham International Station when this Avanti Train pulled in and had not much time to snap it hence poor focus .I wonder how many loco's/carriages are named after Squadrons and what if any criteria are used in choosing a squadron to name a Locomotive /carriage after ?

There is a list on Wonkypedia though most have been withdrawn from service and only a few preserved ones remain.
I think I have walked underneath one. I took some friends' kids to a heritage railway many years ago and they had a locomotive in the workshop, sure it was a Battle of Britain one. They us walk underneath it.
