I think it depended on the urgency, some were sent by teleprinter but DRs were used.

The book on Gilnahirk says that unusually there were special arrangements for Northern Ireland. Intercepts were posted to the main GPO in Belfast, the letter boxes were emptied by the bus service and I think any for that address were taken straight to Belfast (need to check the book again!). Some were forwarded by teleprinter.

We were told that the RN Y Service site at Sumburgh was very busy during the hunt for the Bismarck with DRs working around the clock.

Yes, it is still active but scheduled to close within the next few years and be dispersed to other GCHQ sites.

In more recent times this site has been known as
HOSDB - Home Office Scientific Development Branch
HO CAST - Home Office Centre for Science and Technology
Which was then merged into
DSTL - Defence Science and Technology Laboratory
In 2018
The site is planned to close, with most of the work going to Porton Down

So not a GCHQ type site despite the mast
