Omni Red Approach Lights

I came across some pictures showing red omni lights on approach to the runway. Anybody got some information and configuration about them please.

We had them at Farnborough in about '74/75 when I was posted there. They were mounted on the last 10 or so uni directional white lights of the approach lighting system plus the last crossbar and their purpose was to assist pilots in aligning themselves on the centreline at night.
When we had a new approach lighting system installed in about 1977, we lost these lights but omni directional white lights were installed on every third runway edge light instead to provide better 'circling' guidance..
