Die casts are fine, but you are restricted to the markings the manufacturer is using.
With plastic kits, the choice of decals are more varied.

All I would say to some of your comments is for anyone wanting to build models, join modelling forums similar to this and you will be surprised how much you'll learn and how quickly you'll see the benefits.

Your models are very good indeed !! Just wish that I had the patience to achieve such results. I like all types of aicraft, but my favorites are World War Two aircraft, as in the B-17 and P51 shown on this page. Both made for me by a friend a long time ago. He admitted that on occasions they both nearly made their one and only flight during awkward moments of construction Welcome to the forum.

I've been promising myself for a while now I'll get to start opening up some of the unmade kits I have stashed in the garage and loft. Wanting to have a crack at airfield buildings too - just sourcing the correct looking materials for 1:72. Mostly from model railway fraternity!

Talking of buildings - isn't it about time you got that pair of Lightnings into the dry under a QRA shed!

Well kind of funny you should say that Chris - one of my modelling ambitions is to replicate Binbrooks pan and have somewhere to line all my Lightnings up

The QRA shed has crossed my mind on more than one occassion too. One of the issues I have is space - I model in 1/48 scale which is a superb scale for detailing, but of course any buildings would be the same scale and where do you keep them?

Though they might be 1:48th Gary! As for space - v. diplomatic negotiations with the missus? Might cost you a few posh nights out and all that!

I agree about 1:48th though and space is my limiting factor. Luckily, just about ll of the un-built kits I have are (when I get around to them) are 1:72. If I get the right display cabinets I could shoe-horn some in as and when.

Still, the prospect of seeing your Lightnings under a 1:48th QRA is a good one.

I WAS going to mention Brunty's QRA but that would be REALLY undiplomatic BUT, if they can build theirs....

Yes - those Lightnings are very nice....not in the same league, I'm afraid ( it's a diecast ) but Binbrook's former LTF hangar had a visitor last weekend....
