Bellman hangar pre WWII color was created by Dric
Good day to all,
I'm working on a small Hurricane in 1/72 scale, and for a diorama I would like to scratch a section of a Bellman hangar (it's not finished yet, but I put some pics)
I found enough drawings and pictures to get an idea of the dimensions of the shed, but I can not find any information about the color of it just in the prewar period.

Thanks in advance for any information about the subject.

All the best
Cedric

Welcome to ARG Cedric. the original Bellman sheds had canvas doors, and I am not sure when steel doors replaced curtains. Your Hurricane model; (which looks superb), is I assume a Mk 1 with camo so I assume it represents an aircraft in squadron service, so after the end of 1937. The Munich crises was around September 1938 so I would think that by then the hangars had doors and the sheds were being camouflaged.

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

Or you could play it save and paint it black. I think that was the original colour for metal hangars. Possibly with Dark Earth, or something similar, to break it up.

Thanks a lot for your helpfull and kind answers.

You are right about the period Paul. With this model I would like to represent a machine from the N° 151 Sqn.
From Squadron history its seem it began to receive Hurricane in December 1938. Identification code "GG" was used between this date and september 1939.

I will keep an eye on the Patrick Baty page too

We have similar documents referred to on the Baty site such as colour charts etc in our archives and more, including a camouflage school training notes which although was in India, it still relevant to the UK.
