Whilst trawling through the the aerial photos now made available by Historic England, I noticed an odd circular shape at the end of the runway at Bibury. Not attaching any importance to it I ignored it, until on the NLS site I noticed a similar circle on the runway at Everleigh. Is this just a coincidence or is this a design feature for temporary runways with no perimeter track?

It's an 'aiming point' used for parachuting usually gravel.
I wish the 'edit' wouldn't keep 'timing out; can't the MODs set it to permanent?
Anyway there are other aiming points at Netheravon and W.o.t.G.; used to be ones at Thruxton and Queens Parade but they seem to have disappeared.
In an earlier instance of the forum a couple of users edited their posts so as to remove the content completely. Of course this destroyed the flow of the thread, so editing of posts were set to be time limited
