I'm in the process of creating a 3D replica of Little Staughton in late 1945 in Blender for use in flight sim. The runways and dispersals are already locked in position-wise, so time to start work on the buildings. Once finished, the model will be free download to anyone who wants it. Dad was there as a Lanc pilot with 582 Pathfinders at the end of hostilities and I'm retracing his career.
There are c500 structures across the various sites although many are the same. I'm presuming ADS latrines are all the same for example.
I have the Little Staughton Record Site Plans, 3 aerial photos (2 from the period), images of every present day structure, a few B&W images from the period (very few buildings though). I've also got both books by Airfield Building pocket guides by Buchan Innes. I've also walked the site.
Can anyone help with colour schemes please? For maximum impact I'm using 'PBR', physically based rendering allowing full control over the surface appearance of objects. For example, a Nissen hut with flakey, matt black paint with rust showing through. Bumps, ripples etc can also be added.
The goal is maximum authenticity/accuracy and to create a memorial to the 55,743 who perished.
Here's my 'shopping list', and I'd be extremely grateful for any light that can be shed.
Runways - from the aerial images these look to have been asphalt with no markings
Runway lights? - if installed
Dispersals and taxiways - these appear to be concrete sections
T2 Hangars
Robins Hangars
Nissen Huts
Laing Huts
Romney Hutting
Temporary Brick
Permanent Brick
Ideally, for each of these, I need:
typical colour, (best guess if necessary) with a sample image if possible as it would have been at that time
camouflage? if so, what?
texture - gloss/matt
surface - rough, smooth etc
