Whenever I look at old Air Ministry plans, I see reference to "Institute" but what exactly was an "Institute" building ? Was it a dining hall, mess room or could it be whatever it wanted to be ?

Any help appreciated !

This would be where the NAAFi (airmen's club) would be located.

Er how about 'Navy, Army and Air Force Institute' (= NAAFI)?
I believe it was taken over by SPAR supermarkets back in the '80s..
