Defence Teleprinter Network was created by Drew
I have recently identified this building near me from wartime AM RSPs, on which it is referred to as a 'VFT Apparatus Building', and 'DTN Building', to drawing number 1755/41. It is situated about a quarter of a mile outside the former airfield boundary at Wick.
I have unearthed a little information about the Defence Teleprinter Network and Voice Frequency Telegraphy, but I would like to know what this building actually was, it seems too big for just an airfield teleprinter system, but I can't find anything on the actual DTN infrastructure.
Can anyone shed any light on this structure, what it was, what went on inside it, what the rooms were for or how it fitted in to the DTN system?

I was sent a 1945 copy of the DTN Operating Instructions but don't think of any help!
If you look at the pictures of equipment racks, there would several of them in one room, batteries, generator and probably some accommodation - bog, eating etc.
By the way what is the position on the airfield? Perhaps you can add it to the Canmore and HER entries for Wick.

Thanks Martin, yes the POEEJ is where I found most info about DTN, but its mostly about the equipment, technical specs and tests and the like, only passing mention about the network's layout/connectivity, just vague generalities.
I presumed that the rooms contained GPO switch gear and the like for the teleprinter network, but a big building like this for one aerodrome seems excessive? and I have not seen this type of building at other airfields. So was this just for RAF Wick, or was it some sort of hub, did it connect all RAF/military sites in the county, was it a stage point in the main DTN network carrying it on to Orkney and Shetland?
There is no evidence of any bog in the buildings, so does this suggest it was not permanently staffed? No H&S etc. in 1940's wartime to comply with
