Must be one of the largest ones dropped on the UK like a 2,500 kg one. Probably not a good idea to blow it up in situ. I assume the length was sans tail fins.

From the limited information it looks to be an SC1000 'Herman' I saw a TV News flash last night explaining the evacuation and knew it had to be a large UXB given the size of the evac area.
These were often dropped with a clockwork delay fuze so the stereotype of a BD man wearing earphones becomes reality! This will need to be defuzed and steamed out in-situ

There's a big brother SC 1800 'Satan' too. The Tail Units of most German bombs made of an alloy and were integral with the the bomb proper shipped as a single unit. However, when dropped from the air, on impact with the ground the TU would break off hence the muddy photo in the news report showing the main casing only.

According to the BBC a controlled explosion took place earlier today and the area was declared safe at 18:12 GMT
