When I was a kid I think Half a Crown was referred to as 'arf a dollar.

I heard that term (half a dollar) in the old war movie We Dive at Dawn last night! Near the beginning of the movie, when the crew has been sent on leave (only to soon be recalled for their mission), in a bar, a crewman asks someone for half a dollar. I would've been confused about that if I hadn't read about it here first. The things you learn!

BTW, I hadn't seen We Dive at Dawn before and really enjoyed it. Although it's in English, I had to rewind it occasionally and put on the closed-captioning to read what they were saying!
