Hi, a bit late in response but had a big time trying to get on the forum and see entries... but here now... Yep, living at Hayling island - 60's to late 70's - we saw lots of aircraft on many descriptions buzzing around. Having while in the ATC spent hours in gliders from Tangmere and Sailing around Hayling and from Calshot spit - on the odd sailing course, wondering around the Princess flying boats left in 'mouth ball' type cocoons... happy days. An Uncle of mine was a Loadmaster on the kites at Thorney. I ended up there for some months in early 1971, my early years in the RAF, coming from Digby - ex Rigger, prior to Mech's training at 4SoTT, St Athans. I recall being in a group of youngsters from our Hayling school be airlifted by a Wessex Whirlwind some 200yards off Haying beach to being dropped back on shore to assist Aircrews plucking us from a 8man life-raft. I understand lots of youngsters got influenced by the RAF at Thorney and joined the RAF, I always wondered how many..! pull-up-a-sandbag… Skipp
