I suppose its also a sign that the F16 has been around for quite some time and is on its way out.

They still make the F-16, be around for a few years yet. A very capable aircraft

I noticed that there were two chase planes, another F16, and an F4 Phantom. I had no idea F4s were still flown by the US military.

Anyone remember when it was suggested the that the F16 should replace the Tornado F3? One slight snag, how would it be refuelled in the air?

No the plan was for the F16 to act as purely as an air defence aircraft.
