Fuel Storage Area??..Any ideas??

I was just wondering if anybody could confirm whether this is a fuel storage area or not or even if it is actually airfield related at all. It's near to Leicester East airfield.
Unfortunatly the site plan hasn't been much help as it's a pretty poor print and the writing is unreadible.

It was almost impossible to get a very revealing shot but here it is anyway -

Steve, it would be helpful if you would give the location.

I'd completely forgotton i'd posted this (just over a year ago lol !!!!). Drove past the area in question a couple of days ago and it reminded me to find this thread and ask the question again. Unfortunatley i didnt have my camera with me so i couldn't get a shot without all the snow around. I'm not completely convinced it is related to the airfield as it's a fair distance from the airfield itself. Heres where it is located -

A 'structure' is visible on a USAAF aerial photo dated March 1944 but too small to identify.

Of interest is that. 250m down the lane to Cockerill Farm there is Cockerill Spinney into which a B17 named Fearless Fosdick crashed on 11 SEP 44 the crew already having baled out when the aircraft caught fire in flight returning from a mission.

Yes thats right. It was heading home for Deenethorpe after being hit by anti aircraft fire after a bombing mission to destroy the oil refineries at Mersburg.

Thanks for that Peter.Hmmmm!! so the jurys still out on whether the stucture is actually related to the airfield or not. It certainly looks like it should be. Interesting that there was 'something' around that area in 1944. I think i'll have to order myself a new higher quality site plan. That area isn't even on the poorly printed plan that i have at the moment.

It looks like a furnace fuel oil (FFO) tank, generally used for heating purposes. The breather/vent pipe on the top allowed for spillage into a bunded area. There appears to be a feed pipe at the end of the tank.

I get the impression that the tank was/is a post-war addition. It might be worth asking at the farm. What is WW2 vintage is the adjacent structure. It is unclear in stevies images but seems to be a raised brick structure (platform?)

I've got to nip up to a mates house who lives fairly near to the airfield shortly. I'll take a quick detour and see if i can get a more revealing picture. At least the undergrowth will still be thin around it at the moment.

No joy yesterday either. It's impossible to get a revealing photo of whatever it is. At least with my camera anyway. I'll have to order another site plan.

I know this thread is old but whatever it is it was there in 44
looking at a aerial photo from then.
Could it be a fuel tank for the bomb dump as you wouldn't want them to close to each other.
